Fire ravages Wallace home, no injuries reported

WALLACE – For nearly 6 hours, fire crews from Wallace, Teachey, Rose Hill, and Northeast battled the flames that engulfed a home at 304 W. Main Street in Wallace. There were no injuries reported. The home suffered extensive damage.

According to David Miller, Duplin County Fire News director, units responded to the residential structure fire at approximately 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2. Crews on site were alerted by Wallace Police of heavy smoke and flames were visible from the back of the home.

“Heavy fire was encountered on the side and rear of the structure and in the attic,” said Miller, adding that crews battled the fire with the assistance of the Northeast Ladder Truck.

Main Street was closed from Raleigh to Orange streets, also North Cumberland Street was closed from W. Southerland to W. Boney streets.

Crews cleared the scene at approximately 3 a.m., according to Miller.
“There is no word on the cause of the fire,” said Miller, adding that there was extensive damage to the home.
