Results for Duplin County municipal elections are in

KENANSVILLE – Results are in for Duplin County with a total of 7,556 votes accounting for 15.59% of all registered Duplin County voters.

In the Town of Wallace, longtime councilman Jeff Carter lost his seat by 31 votes to newcomer Penny F. Thorne, who received 181 votes, incumbents Francisco Rivas Diaz, and Frank Brinkley were both re-elected. Rivaz received 227 votes and Brinkley received 186 votes. Incumbent Tasha Herring Redd won the Wallace Council (unexpired) race with 229 votes.

In Beulaville Russell J. Lanier III, Byron Thomas and Tracy Lewis Thomas were elected for the three commissioner seats.

In Calypso, incumbent Joanne B. Wilson was elected mayor with 78.57% of all votes.
Marty Taylor, Troy E. Jernigan Jr., Larry Cashwell, Lisa Tyndall, and Rubylene Lambert won the five commissioner races in Calypso.

In Faison, Commissioner William M. (Billy) Ward was elected mayor with 95.60% of all votes. He will be taking over for Mayor Carolyn Kenyon who did not seek reelection.
Lee Kennedy and Christy Allen won the commissioner races. There was confusion about Ken Avent in the race. Avent is currently fulfilling the unexpired term that Sherry Franklin left when she moved out of town.

“He was already appointed to that seat and that led to a lot of confusion,” said Jimmy Tyndall, Faison executive administrator, adding that after discussing what transpired with the Board of Elections, it was determined that Avent will keep his active two-year seat, while Kennedy and Allen get sworn in for  their four-year terms.

Incumbent Diane Brown was reelected as Greenevers mayor with 59.43% of all votes.
Write-in Reginald James and incumbent Venessa Chasten Farrior won the two commissioner races.

In Kenansville, Mayor Stephen M. Williamson Jr. was reelected with 97.73% of all votes.
Nelson Baker, Crystal Strickland and incumbent Milta King won the races for the two Kenansville commissioner seats.

Dawn Ward won the race for Magnolia mayor with 71.43% of all votes. Elevenia R. Wilson and Eric Graham won the commissioner seats with 39.86% and 21.01% of all votes.

In Rose Hill incumbents Gary Boney, Calvin J. Miller and William (Billy) Wilson Jr. were reelected to keep the seats in their town’s commissioners board..

The race for Teachey Mayor was a contested race. Mayor Leonard D. Fillyaw lost to Bobby Jones, who took the mayoral seat with 34.65% of the votes.
Incumbents Ronnie Page, Wanda Henderson and James (Jamie) Moore were reelected to keep their seats in the town’s commissioners board.

Lastly, in the Town of Warsaw, incumbents Jack A. Hawes and Scotty Levon Smith, along with Tomey Jones were reelected to keep their seats in the town’s commissioners board.
