Letter to the Editor

Pledge allegiance to America

“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands — one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” This pledge was pinned in 1892, by Francis Bellamy, an American editor and clergyman.

I pray that this pledge is taught to all students at all grade levels and repeated each day by all students in all schools, public and private. If we are Americans, we must pledge our support to our nation, the United States of America. We must pledge our support to defend it, to love it, and work to make our nation a safe place to live, to earn a living, and to raise our families.

If one does not pledge their support to the United States of America, then why are they here? This seems very basic and straight forward. Why should anyone be allowed to be in America if they do not support our nation, the United States of America?

Do not get confused, I am not referring to religion or party affiliation or freedom of speech. We may not agree with political decisions that are made at local, state or federal levels. It is simply basic and essential that as an American, “I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands – one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
