Duplin gets ready for municipal elections

KENANSVILLE – With Election Day around the corner, officials remind voters that photo identification will be required to cast their vote on Tuesday, Nov. 7. Elections run from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at your polling place. The last day for early voting is Saturday, Nov. 4, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ed Emory Auditorium, located at 165 Agriculture Drive in Kenansville.

In Beulaville, incumbents Russell J. Lanier III and Byron Thomas are both running uncontended to keep their commissioner seats. Tracy Lewis Thomas is running uncontended for a commissioner seat currently occupied by Kenneth Whaley. His term expires in November.

In Calypso, Mayor Joanne B. Wilson, who is fulfilling the late David Tyndall’s term, is running uncontended for the mayoral seat.

Larry Cashwell, Lisa Tyndall, and Troy E. Jernigan Jr. are in the running for one of the five commissioner seats in Calypso, along with incumbents Rubylene Lambert and Marty Taylor, who are seeking re-election.

In Faison, Commissioner William M. (Billy) Ward is running for the mayoral seat currently occupied by Mayor Carolyn Kenyon. Incumbent Juan Carlos Quintanilla, Christy Allen, Ken Avent Jr., and Lee Kennedy are vying for the two commissioner seats in Faison.

Mayor Diane Brown is running to keep her seat in Greenevers. Incumbent Venessa Chasten Farrior and Joseph Bivens are both seeking to fill the two commissioner seats.

In Kenansville, Mayor Stephen M. Williamson Jr. is running to keep the unexpired mayoral seat. Incumbents Eddie Hobbs and Milta King are seeking re-election. They are competing with Nelson Baker and Crystal Strickland to secure one of the three commissioner seats that expire in November.

The Town of Magnolia has two candidates vying for the mayoral seat currently occupied by Mayor Gwendolyn Vann. The candidates are Michael G. Chestnutt and Dawn Ward. Magnolia has two commissioner seats up for election with five candidates in the running. The candidates who have thrown their name in the hat are Patsy Chestnutt, Eric Graham, Ticia Terrell, Elevenia R. Wilson and incumbent Joshua Linares-Fuentes, who was recently appointed commissioner.

In the Town of Mount Olive, incumbent Steve Wiggins and J. Jerome Newton are both running for the mayoral seat currently occupied by Mayor Ken Talton.

Danny E. Keel and Robert R. King are vying for the Commissioner-At-Large seat, with incumbent Delreese Simmons and Harlie Carmichael running for the District 2 Commissioner seat.

Rose Hill has three commissioner seats open for election and incumbents Gary Boney, Calvin J. Miller and William (Billy) Wilson Jr., are all seeking to keep their seats.

The Town of Teachey has the most candidates running for mayor, with incumbent Leonard D. Fillyaw, Bobby Jones, Anthony Rosso, and Danny Sutton, who have all thrown their hats in the ring for the mayoral seat. Commissioners Wanda Henderson, James (Jamie) Moore, and Ronnie Page are all seeking re-election.

In the Town of Wallace, four candidates are running for the three council seats available. Penny F. Thorne and incumbents Francisco Rivas Diaz, William Jeffrey Carter and Frank Brinkley are vying for the seats. Incumbent Tasha Herring Redd is running for the Wallace Council (unexpired) seat she currently occupies.

Lastly, in Warsaw, incumbents Jack A. Hawes, Scotty Levon Smith, and Owen Martin Jr. are vying against Donald Herring, Tomey Jones, and Sheree Shepard for the three commissioner seats available.
