BEULAVILLE — Review of activity in 2025 was the majority of what was discussed at Beaulaville’s January board meeting. Public Works reported completion of stormwater and waterline projects.
Following the clean up and new asphalt from these projects, the town will be adjusting water rates, fixing potholes, and installing more meters. The Police Department was proud to report that they are starting out the year fully staffed. New hires in December filled staffing gaps to help them start strong.
“I am proud of the work we have done on the drug issue while we were down two staff positions in 2025,” Police Chief Karl Mobley said. “We had 153 arrests and 95 felony gun charges. They are starting to see that we are not tolerating it, and they are taking it elsewhere.”
Code Enforcement reported having a few violations in December, but they “took it as easy as possible” on citizens through the holidays. Bulk trash was carried off and flashing lights at businesses were fixed.
The spring season will be full of new growth and beautification projects in Beulaville. Town Manager Lori Williams reported that a contract is in the works for a walking trail to be added to the town. The trail comes as part of an urban tree planting project and an Arbor Day celebration. Assembly of a tree advisory board is required for funding of the project. Commissioners Gene Wickline and Russ Lanier both volunteered to be on the board. Three other members of the community are needed to fill the board. In addition to the board, a landscape specialist will also work with the engineer on the project to offer guidance.
Other new projects starting in the spring include the Housing Rehab project and another bulk trash collection on March 25.
Some roles and positions changed. Mayor Hutch Jones assumed the role of representing the town at the Eastern Carolina Council. The council representative position had been held by Commissioner Lanier for three years, but he requested a rotation out of that role. Additionally, a new administration position will be advertised to fill Jennifer Strickland’s former position of utility clerk.
The meeting adjourned shortly after these discussions.
